After a 48 year hiatus Daffy Apple® Caramel Apples are back in California and other Western states. “Daffy Apples” as they are commonly called are one of the oldest caramel apple brands in the US. Founded in Illinois in 1951, there were numerous Daffy Apple franchisees around the country including Southern California. After the founder passed away, Daffy Apple consolidated to one location in Denver, CO.
Daffy Apples are made with fresh crop California granny smith apples ensuring a juicy and crisp caramel apple. The traditional Daffy Apple is made with a sweet crunchy coating and is nut-free and always has been. Daffy Apple also makes other varieties like peanut, peanut chocolate chip and sprinkles.
Currently, Daffy Apples can be found in California at Ralph’s and Food4Less. In the West, they can also be found at Fry’s and Fred Meyer. Visit Daffy Apple’s website at www.daffyapple.com for more products like caramel apple kits and other caramel confections.
Perhaps you should have just studied, but maybe an apple can get you by this time. Why are apples always associated with teachers? Coincidentally, September is not only the time schools begin session, but also a prime time in apple harvesting season. Although there is no solid evidence as to where this tradition came from or why, there have been many educated guesses.
Apples are universally associated with health, hence the saying “an apple a day, keeps the Doctor away”. This could mean it was a gift wishing the teacher good health. Some families could not afford schooling, and apples were used as a method of payment for teachers. Apples were also used to show appreciation, especially when teachers had nearly 50 students in their classroom!
Apples have come a long way, especially here at Daffy Farms. What would look better on your teacher’s desk this year than one of our premium apples?
Best of luck to all students and teachers for the 2016 -2017 school year from Daffy Farms!
Daffy Apple Tree update. We have baby apples! Our very own apple tree managed to avoid the perils of Springtime in Colorado and the blossoms produced some younglings. We’ll keep a watch over them as the summer progresses. When these are ready, the Daffy Apple season will be upon us and you can start looking for caramel apples on our website and in local grocery stores in the Rocky Mountain Region.
Daffy Apple’s very own apple tree in our front yard is telling us the apple growing season is around the corner. Please don’t snow this weekend! This is a very delicate time for apple trees. A freeze now would eliminate all apples for this growing season. This beautiful pink blossom will turn white as it continues to flower.
